What requirements must an invention meet to be patentable?
It must be new, involve an inventive step, and have industrial applicability. Novelty is assessed against all publicly known information worldwide prior to the filing date.
What is a utility model?
It is a form of protection similar to a patent, but for minor innovations such as functional improvements to existing products. It requires a lower inventive step and is usually processed more quickly.
How long does a patent last?
An invention patent lasts 20 years from the filing date. Utility models are valid for 10 years, and industrial designs for 10 years, renewable once.
What does an industrial design or drawing protect?
It protects the external appearance of a product, such as its shape, lines, colors, or texture. It is ideal for industrial or handcrafted objects with aesthetic value.
